Next-Level Wi-Fi 6 Performance

With 8 spatial streams and AX6000 dual-band performance, Flint 2 supports simultaneous high-definition and ultra-HD video streaming, even across multiple devices. It’s also backward compatible with older Wi-Fi standards like 802.11AC, making it a great upgrade for any network.

Built-In Security with WPA3 and DNS Encryption
Security is a top priority, and Flint 2 comes ready with WPA3, the latest in Wi-Fi security protocols. It adds stronger protection against brute-force attacks and encrypts individual user sessions—even on public networks. Additional support for DNS over HTTPS (DoH) and DNS over TLS (DoT) helps shield your DNS traffic from snooping and interference.

Ad-Free Browsing with AdGuard Home

Enjoy a cleaner internet experience with AdGuard Home built in. It works at the DNS level to block trackers and ads before they even load, and includes a simple web interface for easy customization.

Unbreakable Connectivity with Multi-WAN and Failover
The Flint 2 is more than just fast—it’s reliable. With Multi-WAN, Failover, and Load Balancing features, your network stays online even if one connection goes down. It’s perfect for critical home offices or setups that can’t afford interruptions.

Fast VPN with WireGuard

For privacy-focused users or remote workers, Flint 2 supports WireGuard VPN speeds up to 900 Mbps. You get both speed and security in one powerful package.

Adding a Second Router for My Parents’ Home – GL.iNet GL-B1300 (Convexa-B)

 Adding a Second Router for My Parents’ Home – GL.iNet GL-B1300 (Convexa-B)

Shortly after setting up my portable Slate router, I decided to get another GL.iNet device—this time for my parents’ home. That’s when another interesting product caught my attention: the GL-B1300 (Convexa-B). It comes equipped with Qualcomm’s Wi-Fi SON (Self-Organizing Network) mesh technology.

This router gave me all the features I enjoyed on the Slate, but with some extras. It offered better VPN performance, improved Wi-Fi coverage, and DNS over TLS support. (DNS over TLS was also available on the Slate, but I never really activated it.)

With this new unit, I was able to leave the Slate permanently in the office. At my parents' place, we could now share access to my Synology NAS at home. They were also able to start backing up their phone photos directly to the NAS, which gave them more peace of mind.

I bought the Convexa-B from Amazon because GL.iNet’s direct shipping was a bit expensive at the time. Since I wasn’t sure how well the coverage would be, I started with just one unit, planning to expand if needed. Fortunately, one unit was more than enough to cover my parents’ entire place.

They were happy with it too. The router has no external antennas and a clean, compact design that doesn’t take up much space in the cupboard. It blended in nicely without being an eyesore.

Introduction - GL.iNet and my house VPN network

How I Found the Perfect Portable Router for Home–Office VPN

Years ago, I was looking for a portable router that I could bring between home and office. My goal was to create a private network in the office using my personal devices, mainly my iPad and iPhone, so I could access home resources. For security reasons, no office devices or equipment were ever connected to this router.

At that time, AI tools were not available yet, so I spent a lot of time researching online. I had to read through different manufacturers' websites and online forums. That was when I came across a Facebook ad showing the GL.iNet GL-AR750S / Slate router.

It was the right size and powered by USB. Most importantly, it came with LAN ports, WiFi, and supported both WireGuard and OpenVPN. It was exactly what I needed. I could connect back to my home network and access my resources, all in a portable setup. I used my mobile 4G connection to tether the router and establish the VPN link between home and office.

What made the Slate stand out even more was how compact it was. It's roughly the size of a standard credit card, with a thickness similar to a small book about 2 cm high. It uses a micro USB port for power, which made it easy to power up anywhere using common cables and power banks. It also consumes so little power that I could run it off a power bank for hours without any issues.

What surprised me when I received the device was its compact size and easy-to-use web interface. Before buying it, I was worried that setting up

tethering and OpenVPN would be difficult, but it turned out to be much simpler than I expected.
